Centenary birthday of Tadeusz Kantor

April 6, 2015 will mark 100 years since the birth of Tadeusz Kantor – painter, set designer, art theorist and above all – a man of the theater. Kantor is widely considered one of the greatest innovators of twentieth-century theater, his theater Cricot 2 achieved international success, contributing to the great promotion of Polish culture on all continents.

Polish Sejm proclaimed 2015 the Year of Polish Theatre, convinced of its unique history and the role it plays in modern life of our country. As part of the Year of Polish Theatre will also be celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tadeusz Kantor.  On this occasion, a special program is prepared by Cricoteka in its headquarters in Krakow, as well as wide cooperation across Poland and abroad.

Moreover, on April 17, the official inauguration of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the artist birthday will take place in Cricoteka. At 18:00 there will be an opening of an exhibition by Maria Stangret and Tadeusz Kantor prepared jointly by Cricoteka and Foundation of Tadeusz Kantor. The opening will be attended by prof. Malgorzata Omilanowska – Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Finally, on April 18, House of Tadeusz Kantor and Maria Stangret in Hucisko near Gdów will open its doors to the public between 3 pm and 6 pm.
