Among Tadeusz Kantor’s scenographic works for repertoire theatres, the production of The Shoemakers was prepared strictly according to the artist’s idea:
“The Shoemakers” – Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, translated by Erik Veaux
Direction and staging – Tadeusz Kantor
Stage design and costumes – Tadeusz Kantor
Assistant – Claude Berche
Artistic supervision – Guy Kayat
Premiere – 9 May 1972
Théâtre 71 a Malakoff, Paris
(from so-called May cultural manifestos series)
Tadeusz Kantor also created stage designs for the performances below listed, yet there is no proper information on their staging details *:
“The Peace” – Aristophanes;
“Winkelried Festival” – Jerzy Andrzejewski, Jerzy Zagórski;
“At the Door” ** – Wolfgang Borchert, translated by Edwin Herbert, Egon Naganowski.
* The data was compiled on the basis of Tadeusz Kantor’s original notes on stage designs for the performances which have most likely never been realized.
** The performance also functions unofficially under the title given by Tadeusz Kantor – “By the Door”.
