Schlemmer | Kantor

Description

“Analyzing associations between Tadeusz Kantor’s creative output and the work by Oskar Schlemmer, discovering possible inspirations drawn by the artist from Krakow from the Bauhaus, exploring parallels and additional contexts for the development of Kantor’s creative imagination – all this has long constituted a major research challenge to which the organizers of the exhibition and the authors featured in the accompanying book Schlemmer | Kantor have now risen. Tadeusz Kantor acknowledged on many occasions his youthful fascination with Constructivism, the Bauhaus, the work of Walter Gropius and Oskar Schlemmer, it thus seems worthwhile to assemble all signs (visual, theatrical and verbal) of this interest and cast some light on its origins – especially as they remain largely unknown in Poland. […] The book will help to understand some decisions taken by Tadeusz Kantor, his position as an artist active within a specific context of European art, and most of all his aesthetic self-awareness.” prof. dr hab.
